Teruhiro Yanagihara Studio has designed an exhibition named EARTHSCAPE in Daikanyama, as a part of a design & art festival DESIGNART TOKYO 2019. This exhibition presented the outcomes of a stone research project conducted by the Okurayama Studio, renowned for its Daté Kan Stone quarrying and processing, and Teruhiro Yanagihara Studio. Artist Yuna Yagi also participated in this exhibition.
The designer Yanagihara said, "When I was approached by the Okurayama Studio to discuss future developments, I was fascinated by the stone itself. That's why we launched a research project to explore the charms of the Daté Kan Stone that artist Isamu Noguchi once loved and the mountains where it is produced. Also, I wanted to show the beauty of the stones themselves rather than their processing techniques, so we asked the photographer Yuna Yagi to collaborate with us".
In the exhibition room, Yagi's unique photographic work, which is shown through thick acrylic, and the stones Yanagihara had found on site were showcased. Yanagihara also designed a box-shaped display stand so that visitors could focus solely on the rocks.
The exhibition won the Big Emotion Award, the top prize at DESIGNART TOKYO 2019.
