Tokyo-based design studio, TONERICO: INC. designed a concept shop AMAHARE that selling traditional tableware and crafts, carefully selected from all over Japan. AMAHARE (‘Ame’ means rain, ‘Hare’ means sunny in Japanese) named after their concept “On rainy days or sunny days, a truly relaxing life.”
The designer had got inspiration from the scene of the Japanese traditional table setting with a white wooden plate; they created calm fit-out utilising the wooden plate as a key element for the space design.
For the display shelves, 13mm square steel pipe made frame was constructed to represents the brand philosophy with a sense of the delicacy and assembled with a custom-made lightweight, thin wooden plate. Besides, wood wool cement board was chosen as a wall material because the similar material was already installed as the base layer of the existing 1970s building. On the upper part of the cement board wall was painted in grey gradation to show the image of a hazy sky.
Near the entrance, customer can enjoy the Japanese seasonality from the display of ‘Tokonoma’ inspired lower shelf beside the wall.
