STRUCTURAL FABRIC —space-position in fabric— by Yumi Muto
Musashino Art University | College of Art and Design | Department of Industrial, Interior and Craft Design
From a piece of cloth, it becomes a chair.
By encasing the wood in the cloth, the soft cloth and hard wood become one and restrict each other's movement. By doing so, It creates fiber direction and folds. It is a structural fabric.
When the structure for assembling the chair was applied to the fabric, the relationship between the margins of the cloth and the placement of the core material is developed as inevitable. It becomes a structure for three-dimensionality.
Structural Fabric becomes a development for the chair, and is the fabric for the chair.
