Daisuke Motogi from DDAA/DDAA LAB has designed a table named ` Strange Tensegrity Table 3’. This prototype is the third model in a series of ‘Strange Tensegrity Table’ using a tensegrity system stabilized by tension elements with compression elements.

Regarding the design concept, Motoki said, “By floating the tree branches fixed with wires in the hollow, we intended to make them an object to be appreciated like art. In a normal tensegrity system, there should be three vertical members and three horizontal members. However, we created a strange structure with only two horizontal members, and carefully arranged each member precisely after structural analysis.”

DETAIL

For one of the horizontal members, a branch called ‘Shareboku’ was used. The structural analysis was done with an architect Toshikatsu Kiuchi.
